France have moved a large step closer to progressing to the knockout stages at Euro 2012, with a convincing 2-0 win over Ukraine in Donetsk.
Les Bleus were guided by two goals in the space of three second-half minutes to Jeremy Menez and Yohan Cabaye, with striker Karim Benzema providing the assist for both.
Menez turned his opponent inside out, and fired a left-foot shot at the near post of Ukraine custodian Andriy Pyatov on 53 minutes, before Benzema laid off to Cabaye for France s second moments later.
The match had been halted after just a few minutes due to lightning, but after a 45-minute delay, play continued.
And when it did, France were commanding much to the home fans displeasure, with Cabaye also being denied by the woodwork in his attempt at …

Chris Samba could make his QPR debut in their crucial home game against Norwich on Saturday
This weekend’s Premier League programme kick-offs on Saturday lunchtime at Loftus Road, where rock-bottom QPR host Norwich.
Rangers were one of the busiest clubs on transfer deadline day, bringing in Christopher Samba, Jermaine Jenas and Andros Townsend to reinforce their squad.
The Hoops are in desperate need of points, as they are now four points away from Premier League safety.
The visitors are just seven points clear of the relegation zone, after a run of seven games without a top flight victory. The Canaries will be hoping that run ends at Loftus Road.
The late kick-off sees Manchester United visiting Fulham’s Craven Cottage. The league leaders ha…
Since Jurgen Klopp announced his departure from Liverpool at the end of the season, there s been plenty of talk about his team giving him the best possible send-off after a glorious nine-year spell. They got off to a fine start on Sunday, beating Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final to claim the first of the four trophies they ve been competing for this season.
Despite a very lively contest with plenty of chances at both ends of the pitch, the regular 90 minutes (plus stoppage time) ended goalless. But three minutes before the end of the second extra-time period, Virgil van Dijk headed a Kostas Tsimikas corner past a very good Djordje Petrovic in the Chelsea goal to settle the affair.
The game
The contest was an extremely dynamic one, with plenty of desire from both sides …
I’ve spent the bulk of this week packing away the holiday decorations, stripping the Christmas tree bare, and jamming my 6-foot-4 frame into our storage space under the stairs for a real-life game of Tetris.
It seems like only yesterday that I was hunched over inside that tiny hideaway, hauling out those same bins and boxes while “Die Hard 2” played on the TV in the next room.
The holidays come and go faster than you can say, “Oh shit, the power bill”- much like the NFL season.
I can’t believe we’ve reached our NFL Week 18 point spread picks already. Despite having an extra week of NFL betting this year, the regular season blew past us like Ja’Marr Chase in one-on-one coverage. And now we sit on the …
A pair of teams in the midst of incredibly disappointing lost seasons will meet Monday night as the Los Angeles Rams take on the Green Packers in what could be the coldest game of the week.
With injuries ravaging the Rams, some modest Overs are showing decent value, especially considering the possible game script.
Here are my NFL player props for Monday Night Football’s battle between the Rams and Packers.

It’s the marquee game of the week as the Baltimore Ravens travel to the Bay Area to take on the San Francisco 49ers.
Both teams have a very realistic chance of representing their conference in this year’s Super Bowl and both teams will be looking to make a statement.
Add in the fact you have two MVP candidates squaring off in Lamar Jackson and Brock Purdy, and you have yourself some must-see football action!
While there are a number of different subscription-based TV channels and streaming services available to watch this game… did you know that you can also live stream Ravens/49ers directly from legal sports betting sites?
FanDuel, Caesars, BetRivers, and Fanatics Sportsbook are four of our most trusted NFL betting sites — an…
On days like these, as the calendar ticks around, as we link hands and sing of our joy at being one notch further on the doomsday clock, it is customary to talk about hopes for the future and life lessons learned from the last 12 months of kicking balls, running around tracks, driving fast cars and all the rest.
Except of course, there are no actual lessons to be learned from professional sport, which is basically lighted shapes moving on a screen, digital celebrity worship, a confusion of desires coopted into a pay-per-view entertainment product.

Having hogged countless column inches with increasingly frantic speculation over a summer move to a famous European club – which in fairness was not his fault, and entirely ours – Victor Osimhen looks poised to do the old switcheroo and sign a contract extension with the Italian champions, Napoli, instead.

Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United and Chelsea were among the raft of clubs linked with the Nigeria international, whose goals helped fire the Partenopei to their third Scudetto last season. Sky Italia report Napoli want a €200m (£171m) release clause included in the terms of the new deal, while Osimhen and his people are aiming for a more modest …
Yankees GM Brian Cashman is well aware of how old and bad his team is, and now it looks like he's starting to get a bit desperate. While speaking to reporters at spring training today, Cashman made it known that he wants to bring Chipper Jones out of retirement to play for the Yanks. The only problem is that Cashman doesn't have Jones's phone number: Sitting in the dugout before the Yankees’ exhibition game with the St. Louis Cardinals, Cashman confirmed to three reporters that he asked Derrek Lee to come out of retirement, and then said he would be just as happy to sign Chipper Jones, who retired last year after 19 years with the Braves. But Cashman said he did not have a working telephone number for Jones’s agent, B.B. Abbott, so he told the reporters they could re…
